Of course, we are accepting orders for other purposes also—anniversaries, birthdays, “just because”, etc.  Order by 6/15 to be included in our next installation.  You’ll be able to view your brick by the end of July.

Love Is In The Air

It’s now almost the end of January, and love is in the air—at least it is for the owls that are sending their amorous hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo messages out into the night air seeking a mate.

However, owls are not the only species expressing their amorous sentiments.   The human species (Homo sapiens) are preparing to celebrate the most romantic day of the year—Valentine’s Day.  Some will exchange cards, others will show up at their lady-love’s door with flowers or a box of chocolates, which will either wilt in a few days or be eaten in short order.

The true romantics will show up with a certificate for a World Bird Sanctuary brick!  You don’t think that sounds so romantic?  Think about it—the flowers will be wilted and dead within a few days; the candy will quickly be long gone; but the inscribed brick will be a lasting testament to your true love.  You may choose any sentiment you like (within the constraints of space and taste, of course). 

 You and your love will be able to find your brick years from now by visiting the World Bird Sanctuary amphitheater on your anniversary—or any time you choose.  Your children and grandchildren can make a trip to WBS to find their “family brick” generations from now and reminisce about how their family tree started.

Mother's Day Brick

Now that Easter is behind us Mother’s Day is just around the corner. 

What can you give the first woman in your life that truly expresses your love and appreciation for all the things she has done for you?  Flowers?—they are pretty, but will wilt within a week.   Candy?—it’s yummy, but how often have you heard her say she’s on a diet or wants to lose a few pounds?  Besides, candy will also be gone within a short time. 

World Bird Sanctuary has the answer—the perfect Mother’s Day gift!  One that will express your feelings for your mom in your own words, will last indefinitely, and will be there to remind her of your love each and every time she visits WBS.  What is this perfect Mother’s Day gift?  It’s an inscribed brick, which will be installed in our amphitheater!

Happy Birthday Arnie!

Arnie Schrier has served World Bird Sanctuary for many years, both as a volunteer and as a Board Member.

Arnie retired from the board and from his weekly volunteering at World Bird Sanctuary in 2012.  In 2013, Arnie’s family honored him and his unwavering service to WBS by purchasing an engraved brick for his 85^th birthday as part of WBS’s “Buy A Brick” program.

On Sunday, September 1^st, Arnie, his wife Thelma, and his children and grandchildren visited World Bird Sanctuary to view the brick, a fitting tribute to his dedication to our mission.

Arnie will be recognized by our long-term visitors as the helpful and smiling face that greeted visitors at the Visitor Information Center (the VIC) – the first stop on a visit to World Bird Sanctuary.  Arnie would let visitors know what there was to see and tell them about some of the birds they could see at the VIC.  In addition to chatting with visitors, Arnie put birds out into the weathering area in the morning, diligently scrubbed their overnight quarters, and then made sure they were fed and put to bed safely for the night before leaving.  Skyler, the Lizard Buzzard, who has since passed away, was Arnie’s favorite – and the two would “chat” back and forth while Arnie was going about his work at the VIC.

After an absence of over a year, it was wonderful to see Arnie back at WBS again.  We think that the engraved brick – a gift from Arnie’s family – was a great way to commemorate his 85^th birthday and honor the work he has done for World Bird Sanctuary.

With Mother’s Day just around the corner it’s not too early to start thinking about what you can give your favorite gal this year.

Now Is The Time!

Now is the time to place your order for an engraved brick.

If you’ve been meaning to order one of our inscribed bricks to be installed in the WBS amphitheater—don’t delay any longer.  The deadline for ordering this batch of bricks is February 4^th so that we will receive them in time to be installed before World Eagle Day,  which takes place on the fourth Sunday in March.

Admittedly, the large majority of the bricks already installed are “in memoriam” bricks for friends or loved ones who have passed on.  However, as one walks down the stairs to our amphitheater it is interesting to read the bricks and to see the other occasions celebrated by our supporters….Valentine messages, anniversaries, birthdays, a memorial for a beloved pet,  birth of a new baby, to honor someone you love or admire, to celebrate a wedding, a scout troop celebrating completion of a badge or project, parents celebrating a milestone in their child’s life, or (and this is a very broad category) “just because”.

Soon we will be starting on the amphitheater landings and seating areas

All of the birds and other animals that call World Bird Sanctuary home are available for adoption. Your adoption helps to care for your animal for a year, and adoption fees include:

RAPTOR PROJECT CD
