Planet Earth – what an interesting and fascinating world. 

So, we live on the third rock from the Sun.  But how much do you know about the planet’s five major biomes: aquatic, deserts, forests, grasslands and tundra?

World Bird Sanctuary offers a Resource Nest Box called “Where We Live”.  This is an educational resource box loaded with books, DVD’s, videos, activities, games and more.  For a nominal fee of $25.00 you can rent this box for a two-week period through our Education Department.

This box contains a wealth of information and tools and hours of entertainment including twenty-two books on topics such as: arctic and desert wildlife, the tundra, desert, woods, rainforest, oceans, wetlands, grasslands, prairies and more, a tree ring counting guide, a food chain game, five VHS videos about animals and prairies, the Planet Earth and Blue Planet boxed DVD set containing ten DVD’s, a puppet show with seven puppets and a script, and more.

Resource Nest Boxes are a great addition to classroom teaching, for home schoolers, students working on research papers, day cares, scout leaders, or for kids that just want to have fun and learn more about our great planet and the creatures that we share it with.

Rocks Are Pretty Hard-core

Rocks rock!  But how much do you actually know about them? 

As old as the earth itself, there is much to learn about the many aspects of geology.  World Bird Sanctuary offers a great resource for studying rocks, fossils, gems and minerals all in a handy travel tote.  It’s called a Resource Nest Box and it’s loaded with educational books, games, videos, activities and more.  For a nominal fee of $25.00 you can rent a Resource Nest Box for a two week period through our Education Department.

This particular Resource Nest Box is called “Rocks Rock!”  In this box you will find Q & A cards about geology; guide books to rocks, gems, minerals and fossils; a book offering 50 hands-on activities to explore the earth; a video (VHS) about prehistoric life; over 100 rock and mineral specimens with ID guides; fossil replicas; rubbing plates and ID guides; and more.

WBS offers three additional Resource Nest Boxes, which are a great addition to classroom teachings, for home schoolers, day cares, scout leaders or for kids that just want to have fun and learn about our great planet and the creatures that we share it with.  Other topics include: Talon Tote; Protect Our Planet; and Where We Live.

Have Puppets – Will Travel

Did you know that the World Bird Sanctuary offers Resource Nest Boxes?

No, they aren’t boxes for birds to nest in.  They are boxes loaded with educational books, games, videos, activities and more.  For a nominal fee of $25.00, you can rent one of our Resource Nest Boxes for a two-week period through our Education Department.

The Resource Nest Boxes are a great addition to classroom teaching, for home schoolers, daycares, scout leaders or for kids that just want to have fun and learn more about our great planet and the creatures that we share it with.  Topics include:  Protect Our Planet, Rocks Rock, Talon Tote and Where We Live.

I want to highlight a particularly popular Resource Nest Box:  Talon Tote

The focus of this box is on Birds of Prey, and offers a sort of “hands on” approach to learning about them.  Birds of prey “come alive” with life-sized wearable wings, puppets and scripts for your own puppet show, books, crafts, replicas of talons and tracks and an audible Bird Identifier with raptor calls.

This box offers life size wearable “wings” of the Andean Condor, Bald Eagle, Great Horned Owl and Peregrine Falcon.  These are great tools to show children the actual wingspan of these magnificent birds.  The “wings” are made of cloth and have photos of each bird that they represent.  You will be truly amazed at their size.

Also included in this Resource Nest Box are five different books about birds of prey, track and talon replicas of the Great Horned Owl, Bald Eagle, Turkey Vulture, American Kestrel and Peregrine Falcon, as well as an audio Bird Identifier which can be used to hear the actual sounds or calls made by specific bird species.  There are also two different puppet show scripts along with nine puppets, instructions for several craft projects and props to outfit yourself with “tools” like a raptor.

Idle Hands and Minds?

Looking for something to keep the kids busy this summer?

Have you heard about our Resource Nest Boxes?  We have four different boxes available on different topics that offer hours of entertainment and a wealth of information. 

These boxes contain more interesting and fun activities, games, music, videos, books and props than children will know what to do with.  The best part is that our Resource Nest Boxes are both educational and environmentally friendly.  They can be checked out for a two week period for a nominal fee of only $25.00 through our Education Department, located at our Nature Center.

The Resource Nest Boxes are a great addition to a classroom curriculum, for home schoolers, scout leaders or for kids that just want to have fun and learn more about our great planet.  Topics include:  Protect Our Planet, Rocks Rock, Talon Tote and Where We Live.

The focus of this box is the importance of conservation, and how each and every one of us has an impact – good or bad.  This is an important subject that we touch on in each and every one of our Environmental Education Programs.  The contents of this box will cover a multitude of topics that should be considered in order to “Protect Our Planet”, such as: saving energy and water, recycling, global warming, considering the products that we purchase, composting, deadly trash and litter, etc.

This box offers a total of nine different books, a puzzle depicting the Circle of Life, a card game, knowledge cards, two CD’s recorded by World Bird Sanctuary’s own band, “The Raptor Project”, three VHS videos, a paper making kit, educational cards about fishing methods, five posters, a fishing game, recycling crafts and many other activities.
