Buy a Brick In Time for Open House

Have you been meaning to purchase a WBS engraved brick to honor someone special, but just have not gotten around to it?

If so, now is your chance to purchase that brick and see it installed just before our upcoming Open House on October 20 & 21.  All engraved bricks will be installed on the steps, landings, and seating areas of our amphitheater.  The available spaces on our steps are nearly completed.  These premium spaces are the ones that everyone sees when entering our amphitheater.

Don’t delay--final orders must be in by September 26 in time for us to submit the order, have the bricks engraved and shipped, and then have them installed.

After this Fall installation we will not be ordering and installing the next batch of bricks until our Spring installation in March.

So to honor that special someone, memorialize a loved one who has passed on, remember a faithful companion, or just give an inspiring message to all who see your brick, be sure to order before 9/26.

To purchase your brick Click here for the ordering page on our website, or if you prefer to pay by check call 636-225-4390, XT 0 and tell the person answering that you want to order a brick.

Then come visit your brick on Open House weekend—or at any other time if you can’t make it to Open House.

Valentine's Day Is Coming

Once upon a time, when a young man wanted to express his sentiments for his sweetheart, it was the custom to carve their initials in the trunk of a tree.

In today’s world we now know that this can be a death knell for the tree—plus, most of us are city dwellers who wouldn’t have a large enough tree handy, even if we did want to deface it in this way.

However, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the World Bird Sanctuary now offers a way to continue this time-honored tradition.   A World Bird Sanctuary inscribed brick can be a perfect and lasting Valentine for your sweetheart without damaging a tree.

Your brick will be installed in our amphitheater stairs or landings and will be a lasting declaration of your love.   For an additional small fee you may purchase a presentation certificate to give your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day to let her know about her brick.

To purchase a 4” X 8” brick with a 3-line message click here.  Bricks are also available in an 8” X 8” size with a 6-line message.  There is a wide selection of stock symbols (such as hearts, cupids, etc.) which can be included in the inscription.

Your donation will help to support the mission of the World Bird Sanctuary, and all brick donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Make this Valentine’s Day a memorable one for your spouse, sweetheart or significant other.

There's Still Time to Buy A Brick

With the World Bird Sanctuary’s Open House coming up soon it’s time to think of bricks!

What does Open House on October 15 and 16 have to do with bricks?  That’s the weekend when thousands of visitors will see the inscribed bricks installed in our beautiful newly remodeled amphitheater.

We will soon be ordering the next group of inscribed bricks to be installed on our stairs by Open House weekend.  So if you would like to see your brick when you visit us for Open House be sure to place your order no later than 9/19.

Have You Seen Our New Amphitheater?

Wednesday, June 29, marked the Grand Opening ceremony for our new renovated amphitheater.
WBS Director, Walter Crawford, and Board President, John Risberg, cut the ribbon
We marked this important event with performances by our in house band The Raptor Project and flight demonstrations by our stars, the birds.
Employees and guests enjoy the more comfortable seating while our birds perform for the audience
A crowd of longtime supporters was present, as well as a number of supporters who had purchased or received inscribed bricks.  Our thanks to the Ludwick Foundation which generously funded the beautiful improvements to this important component of our Education Department.

This project was begun in the summer of 2009 with the announcement of our Buy A Brick campaign. The proceeds from brick sales were earmarked to replace the original steps and amphitheater seating which had begun deteriorating.  The original plan was to replace the steps and amphitheater in sections as the bricks were sold to fund the reconstruction.  However, the deterioration of the original materials soon outpaced brick sales, and the Ludwick Foundation generously stepped forward with funds to complete the project.

Now that the main thrust of our Buy A Brick campaign has been completed we will still be taking orders for the inscribed bricks, with proceeds now going toward helping the Education Department to achieve its mission – to give the members of our community the tools that they need to make responsible decisions about sustainable resource management.
A view of the new improved seating area
So, if you haven’t seen our new amphitheater yet, be sure to pay us a visit and take part in some of our expanded programs such as our Amazing Animal Encounters which take place every Saturday and Sunday in our beautiful newly remodeled amphitheater.  These programs are free to the public.

While you’re there be sure to check out the many different types of brick inscriptions possible—memorials for a loved one, birthday wishes, anniversary wishes, Girl Scout Troop mementos, pet memorials, expressions of friendship, etc.  The bricks make a great gift and are always much appreciated by the recipient.

It's Not Too Late

Only twelve days til Christmas and you're stumped for the perfect gift?

It's not too late to order the perfect gift for that special person.  Give them a WBS inscribed brick.  Even though most people think of these as memorials--they can be so much more!

Our inscribed bricks run the gamut.  Yes, we have the memorials, but we also have bricks commemorating the day someone met his sweetheart, bricks from an aunt or uncle honoring their nieces and nephews, a brick from a Brownie Troop making a statement that they recycle, a brick honoring a grandmother and her new grandson, a brick from parents expressing their love for their girls, etc.  The possibilities are endless!

The best part of giving an inscribed brick is that it will outlast almost any other gift you may come up with. Years from now that grandchild will be able to view the brick honoring him or her and his or her grandmother; members of the Brownie Troop will be able to show their children "their" recycling brick; children will be able to show their children the brick dedicated to them by their parents.  In other words, an inscribed brick can prove to be a family heirloom for those lucky enough to receive them.

Our bricks can be ordered along with an inexpensive Donor Certificate.  The Donor Certificate can be wrapped and given at Christmas.

Step by Step

Have you been thinking about ordering a brick from our "Buy a Brick" campaign, but just haven't gotten around to it yet?

If so, we just want to give you a "heads up" that within the next week we will be placing an order for the next phase of our project to pave the steps down to the amphitheater.  Once the order is placed it will be too late to be included in this summer's installation.  The next installation will not be until next fall.

Just remember, bricks are not only for memoriams.  They can be to commemorate a special occasion, honor someone you love, memorialize a beloved pet who has passed on, to remember a special birthday, or to state your commitment to conservation as a scout troop, group, or class.

So, if you would like your brick to be included in this next order, Click Here to order, or call 636-225-4390 to order by phone.

The First One Is Done!!

Our brick campaign is on it's way!

It was tight scheduling, but with the help of some generous donors, and the fine cooperation of Richmond Landscape & Design, we were able to complete Step #1 of our Inscribed Brick Campaign just in time for Open House.

We are all so excited to see this project started, as the steps leading down into the amphitheater have been a constant maintenance problem for the staff--especially in the winter when it snows, and some of the original railroad ties have begun to deteriorate.  The other big plus will be that we are widening these stairs so that they can more easily accommodate two-way traffic. Up until now, someone has to step over to the side to allow oncoming traffic to pass.

If you would like to memorialize a loved one, celebrate a special occasion, remember a special pet, or give a lasting gift to that "impossible to buy for" person on your Christmas list, this is the perfect opportunity.  An inscribed brick in our amphitheater will be a lasting tribute that will never wear out, or go out of style.

Give a Brick for That Special Occasion

Do you need to come up with an original gift for someone who's impossible to buy for?

Need a unique gift for a special occasion?  Need a gift for a landmark anniversary?  Do you need a birthday gift for someone who has everything?

BUY THEM A BRICK!!

Our Buy A Brick campaign is slowly gaining momentum, and we are hoping to be able to pave the first two landings of our amphitheater steps by this fall.  Your donation to the Buy a Brick campaign will help us to pave our amphitheater, and at the same time solve your gift giving problem.

To buy a brick--or to learn more about the campaign--Click Here, or call 636-225-4390, Ext. 0, and tell them you would like to Buy A Brick.

Send a Friend a Brick!

Did you know that our bricks are not just for memorials?

Our Buy a Brick campaign to pave the stairs and amphitheater area is off to a good start with a number of bricks being purchased as memorials to friends and loved ones who have passed on.

However, did you know that memorials are not the only occasion for which you might like to purchase a brick?  They could be purchased to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, to honor a friend or relative who means something special to you, or as a family, to celebrate a family reunion.

Groups, such as families, scout troops, schools, or a school class could pitch in and combine their funds to purchase a brick which would be a lasting memory to commemorate a special occasion.

How fun would it be ten, fifteen, or twenty years from now to bring your children or grandchildren to the Sanctuary and be able to tell them, "See that brick?  When I was in second grade our class (or school) pitched in and bought that brick for the Sanctuary!"

Since we are planning to begin the paving project at the top of the stairs and work our way down, the commemorative bricks will be one of the first things visitors see when they visit our site.

We're very excited about this project, and hope you will be too!!

Remember A Loved One!

The World Bird Sanctuary is excited to announce the beginning of our new Buy A Brick fundraiser!!

The goal of this program is two-fold.  We would like to replace the rock strata in our amphitheater seating area and stairs with a more permanent brick surface.  The brick surface  would be more comfortable for audience seating, and less labor intensive to maintain.  The current loose rock strata is a constant maintenance problem.  Your purchase of one of our engraved bricks would allow us to fund this very expensive project, and at the same time it would provide our friends and supporters with a new and lasting way to recognize loved ones or commemorate special occasions.

Engraved on your custom brick could be:

* Your family name
* Your children's names
* Your company or organization's name
* Commemoration of a special occasion
* A memoriam for a loved one
* An inspirational message for our organization

The possibilities are limitless.  For more information about this exciting new fundraiser, click on the Buy A Brick link in the right-hand sidebar.  When you get to our website wait for the rolling photo that says "Buy A Brick" and click on it.  It will take you to the page with all the details.

Any funds raised over and above the cost of paving the amphitheater would be used to cover the usual (and sometimes unusual) expenses of operating a facility such as ours, such as care and feeding of the birds, maintenance of our site facilities, rescue operations, etc.

Thanks for considering one of our bricks to honor someone special.  We hope to see your personalized brick in our amphitheater soon.
