Say what you want about vultures...

This little Turkey Vulture is still the cutest thing I've ever seen!

This chick was rescued and brought to the sanctuary where he (or she!) is being fed and cared for and kept warm and safe. Once she is grown, she'll be released to live as the wild bird she was born to be. Until then I've secretly named her Gladys! Actually, vultures imprint very easily, so once this bird is out of the brooder she'll be restricted from human interaction and fed by WBS propagation specialists behind a blind so that she can't see the humans or know they've named her anything at all.

Did you expect a vulture to be so adorable?

Oh my gosh, I had no idea that vultures were such white, soft, fuzzy cuties. I usually only see them eating something on the side of the road.

I didnt know that they could imprint so easily. Interesting. Is there a mommy bird that has adopted this one like the Kestrels or are humans just feeding it until it can be released?

I think it would be weird to be fed with a sheet and all I see is a hand coming at me, ok thats just me though :-)

Unfortunately, we don't currently have good foster vultures for this little one. I didn't know about vultures imprinting easily until yesterday when I met the chick. I'd always heard it about owls.

Perhaps you'd feel differently about that hand if it was feeding you a nice fat rat! Mmmm....

The kestrels are still doing great by the way!

So good to hear that the Kestrels are doing well!!

Well I guess if you dont have a foster mommy, a nice hand feeding you a yummy rat is the next best thing :-)

I hope all goes well with this little one too!
